Pocket PC Addict is Down for Now

by Brad Isaac on July 20, 2005

If you have found this blog via Pocket PC Addict, then you have probably noticed our site has been down since Sunday. The reason the site is down is due to an attack. Apparently, someone broke into the server, used it to attack another network and destroyed critical data on Pocket PC Addict. I do have backups of the site, and the server is still being formatted and rebuilt. So I don’t have an ETA on when we’ll have it back up. It is disappointing to me that someone would go to this extent to hurt our Pocket PC community. What did we ever do to them?

How? I am guessing here, but during my vacation I used some unsecured wifi APs (hotel, etc) to access the site for posting, ftp and minor tweakage – perhaps someone sniffed my sessions? Because it was shortly after my vacation that this garbage started happening – view the prior post about the IP Hijacking incident.

Well, I was wondering. For a moment I tought it was my problem. I started to get some strange page. I even wrote to Dave’s iPaq but he never answered, some people are like that.

Lets hope you can fix it quick. I do enjoy very much your site.

Bye,

I’ve been wondering why I could not get to your site or email your support line. That is just rotten what happened.

Hope you are up and running soon.

This is crazy! It really sucks how some punk kids with nothing to do just think it’s okay to destroy what someone else worked so hard to build.

Sorry to hear about the site going down. I am suffering a little PPA withdrawl, but I think I’ll be OK.

However, this is a good example of how true it is that nothing is 100% secure, once again. Also heard London was hit again today. Let’s hope it’s not as bad as the 1st one.

Sorry I rambled, good luck.

remember what they say – the only secure computer is unplugged, off the network and does not have an OS installed.

What a drag – sorry to see your site gone. I was offline since my Axim died and finally got Dell to send my 10 day (overnight) warranty replacement…

Thank you all for the support! I intend to post an update on how things are progressing later this evening. So far, it’s just a lot of boring transfers, etc.
