The Best Laid Plans…
Posted under ThoughtsWell, sometimes things just don’t work out the way we planned.
Today our church was participating in a community clean up effort called “One Great Day”. The purpose of this was to help schools, nursing homes and handicapped individuals by cleaning up and repairing things that needed to be done. Often, it’s mowing lawns, clearing brush, sweeping floors, painting. Just your run of the mill chores.
Our family signs up for this every year and we enjoy doing it. This year didn’t work out though. Our team leader never followed up with us to let us know where we should be. In fact, we didn’t know who our team leader was - we simply signed up like everyone else did. Sure, maybe I should have called around and found out who the leader was and follow up with him/her. But sometimes I just depend on the leader to do their job..
Anyway, we showed up at the pre-launch ceremony this morning and went to the “walk in” booth. Ok, that should work, right? They said that a school way out in the county needed our help because they were short handed. So we got on the road for a 45 minute ride out there.
We arrived at a school and nobody was there! Not a person in sight. So I took the kids and we took advantage of their running track and did a few laps while my wife drove around the school trying to find someone, anyone who could give us an idea of what is needed to be done. Eventually, she found the manager of the grounds. He knew nothing about people coming out to work today.
Oh well…..
