Do you ever have one of those years where the Christmas spirit never really makes it to you? The past few days I have been feeling that way. Maybe it is because we have been unseasonably warm in North Carolina. Even yesterday it was 60 °. Maybe it is because my woodworking has carried over a month or so longer than it normally does and I do not want it to end.
But more likely the reason I wasn’t anticipating Christmas is I wasn’t really doing anything. I have been busy lately and I simply did not feel like hanging Christmas lights. I didn’t feel like helping my wife and kids decorate. So in a way not feeling like decorating or participating in the events of the season, I was getting exactly what I was aiming for. I got what I put in to the situation – nothing.
I decided today I would do a few things to see if I could boost my spirit a bit.
The first thing I did was simple. I put on some Christmas music. Then I set out to decorate my office in Christmas lights. I had been thinking for weeks that I probably would not put up the lights this year.
This afternoon I went to a party, had some good food, good conversation and drank some eggnog.
So the simple act of doing did seem to help.
