In my quest for the ultimate productivity solution, I loaded Activewords on my PC. It seems to be a neat little program. It lets you name certain actions you take every day and use a keystroke to get the action working. For instance, you could type “boss” and hit the F8 key to bring up a new email message to your boss.
Some of my initial observations:
It monitors what you are doing and makes suggestions. In one case, it noticed I was launching the RUN command a lot. So it asked if I wanted to create an Activeword shortcut. I chose “yes” and set the word “run” as my activeword. Now anytime I ever type run in any application and hit F8, it will bring up the run command prompt. It will save numerous mouseclicks over time which will add up to more productivity in theory.
I noticed it has a productivity report feature which actually counts the number of keystrokes and time saved by using your activewords. I assume this will add up significantly if I use the program.
I’ll keep you posted about how I am doing with it and whether I recommend it. It’s sort of fun and they have a free trial available.
