Brad Stine: Family Friendly Stand Up
Posted under Uncategorized
I was browsing around the local used book store the other day when I came across a stand up comedy DVD called Tolerate This by a comic named Brad Stine. I remember working with Brad back in 1994 and unlike the majority of the comics out there he was hilarious. As I’ll reveal in a moment, if you can make me laugh, that is an accomplishment!
I hadn’t heard much about him since that time, yet I hadn’t been looking either — go figure.
Anyway, I picked up the DVD. But what I didn’t notice at the time was the label on the back that said “suitable for all audiences”. “Wow..”I thought. “You mean my kids can enjoy Brad Stine too?” I always struggle with what I want to watch versus what is appropriate for the young minds in my house. It’s so nice to have some videos I can watch without having to worry if my 6 year old has snuck out of bed and catches something bad on TV.
Plus, when you are in the comedy business, you get tired of the profanity. You get tired of the non creative comedians. And you get used to the way comics make their jokes. Most never write jokes at all. They use material taken from locker rooms, stock material and some even steal material. Not Brad though. He is one of the writers, so he always put on a good show.
I will put in a disclaimer. If you are politically liberal, you may take some razzing. He makes no bones about it, he is a conservative Christian and proud of it. But overall, the amount of time he spends discussing his politics and religion is quite short. This DVD is nearly 90 minutes long and most of his jokes are about life in general.
Check it out if you are looking for some good clean fun. Oh, and for the blogging fanatics out there, you can read his blog.
