Simple Pleasures for a Saturday Morning
Posted under ThoughtsIf you don’t have a window bird feeder, I urge you to go out and get one. It doesn’t have to be expensive. The cheap ones attract the same quality birds as the expensive ones. The one in this picture is a Droll Yankee version which is a premium brand feeder and goes for about $30. But I have a couple that are $10 or less. Also with a window bird feeder one of the advantages is that squirrels have a much more difficult time getting to a window than they do getting to a feeder hanging from a tree are from a porch.
Sitting in a comfortable chair with a cup of coffee and some classical music playing in the background while watching the the visiting "flocks" is a great way to start a Saturday. You can get a lot of thinking done while watching the birds. Watching forces you to be still. Being still forces you to relax… and so on.
By the way, if you notice the stained-glass art work — that is one of my sisters illustrious creations. She and her partner on the renowned Snapdragon Studios in Vermont. It is quite an operation — they do everything from the beautiful stained-glass you see in churches to window hangings like this one. Look at the texture. It is like a painting — unlike the kits or average hobbyist work — there is depth and flair you just can’t get from the run-of-the-mill stuff. Be sure and look them up and visit their shop if you find yourself visiting Rutland Vermont.
But back to the window bird watching. I think birds are some motivated creatures. They are up at the crack of dawn building nests, caring for their young. They refurbish old dead trees into mini houses. They entertain and relax us with their music. Though they are always flat broke.
