Perfect Practice Makes Perfect

Posted under Thoughts

Did you ever have the experience of a hulking bodybuilder tell you you are lifting weights “the hard way?”  I have.  In high school I was at the local gym doing some curls when one of the frequent bodybuilders pointed out I was using improper form.  He took a few minutes to show me the right way to do arm curls.  When I did curls the right way, they were tougher.  In fact, I had to reduce the weight and do fewer reps.

He said, “If you use the right form, 3 curls will be more effective than 20 using bad form.”

And so it is with most skills we want to develop.  Practicing the wrong way takes more effort and  the results take longer.  Practicing the “perfect” way - i.e. using proper form and technique and being consistent with the program is where the results are found.
