Focus on more, Not less…
Posted under Goals and Goal SettingA smoker may focus on less smoking.
A person in debt may focus on less debt.
Someone who drinks too much may focus on less drinking.
This is not effective.
Focusing on doing less of something is like me telling you to close your eyes and try not to think of Barney the Dinosaur.
If you were paying attention to the last sentence, you not only got an image of the purple beast, you started humming “l love you, you love me…”
Some of you are probably cursing me about now.
A better approach is focusing on a positive more.
A smoker can choose to focus instead on a new vitality and saving hundreds of dollars from not paying for cigarettes.
Someone who is in debt can focus on building more freedom.
The person who drinks too much can focus on more clarity, better memory and the freedom to drive himself home at night.
This shift in perspective from less of one thing to more of another is motivating because it is the optimistic way to look at the future.
