This Blog Wants A Word With You

Posted under Goals and Goal Setting

To be effective, every blogger and writer has to formulate an accurate picture of their audience.     By having a concept of who they are writing to, the writer becomes better, the message becomes stronger and the reader becomes better informed and/or entertained.

For instance, Teen pop stars do not spend the majority of their time trying to entertain people over 65.   If the next Brittany Spears spends 8 out of 10 hours a day trying to reach the retiree population, she’ll fail at being a successful performer.   She’ll fail because her effort is inefficient and she’d wasting too much time singing to the wrong people.

It occurred to me as I was driving around town today that although I think I have an idea about who the average visitor to the Achieve-IT! blog is, I may be wrong about you.

Every day, as I am writing my posts, I form a picture in my mind about you.   I think about what your challenges and struggles might be.   I think about where you might be in your career.   I think about what you might want to learn more about in the world of self development.

Tonight, I concluded that my image of you and what you want are just guesses!

So the obvious question is How can I find out more about the visitors to this blog so I can provide better content?

There are probably two ways I can discover my audience.

I can either analyze stats to the N’th degree.   That would involve going through how many page views I get on each post and category.   I would have to chart out which posts got more than others.   From there I could assess what my audience - or better YOU would like to read.   This takes a lot of time and energy - time I could be spending posting to the blog.

Or! I could do something much more efficient.   I could simply ask you!

You see, If I don’t know anything about the majority of my readers, I can’t speak to you as well.   It’s not as efficient.   It’s just guesswork.   My concept of you might be wrong!

I might be wrong in thinking you are in either the beginning or middle of your career.

I might be wrong thinking you are looking for answers that will help you advance your career and get out from under a controlling boss.

I might be wrong thinking you are a bright and caring person who takes relationships seriously.

I might be wrong in thinking you dream of starting a business, or venturing on your own if you haven’t already.

I might be wrong in thinking you have a little trouble motivating yourself sometimes.

I might be wrong in thinking you are caring and always try to do the right thing.

I don’t like to be wrong.   But I always want to know when I am, so that’s why I’m asking.

Please help me out and take my quick and confidential survey.

Johnathan, Sorry about that. I had to smack myself in the forehead. after posting last night, it occurred to me the survey had to be “turned on” before it would be live.

Thanks for the responses so far.. I am learning so much from the answers and your comments. :)
