Free e-Book Tuesday: The Power of Positive Thinking

by Brad Isaac on October 23, 2007

Norman Vincent Peale, one of the founders of Guideposts magazine wrote a book first published in 1952 called The Power of Positive Thinking. This book was one of the first mainstream self development books ever published.

I remember picking it up at the library when I was still a teenager and it’s message hitting home. I eventually bought his audio cassette program which I did not like so much – so I eventually traded it.

The book itself came under a lot of scrutiny and is still controversial. But why don’t you give it a read and make up your own mind?

Link Removed at the publisher’s request…

Hey! I am thinking of making the Free e-Book Tuesday a weekly feature here on Achieve-IT!. I’ll scrub the Net and find the best self development books and let you know where to get them. What do you think???

Free + good information + regular feature?

Did you really have to ask? :)

Having worked two days a month with Dr. Norman Vincent Peale personally for exactly 18 years, while raising his NPO over $250 million by mail, I am somewhat familiar with the copyrights on his books, and who controlled them.

I was not aware that his estate had released The Power of Positive Thinking as a free downloadable book.

This is good news to me, if it is true and I’m glad to hear it.

I hope you will not think me rude for asking how you came to receive this great favor, for it leaves me puzzled.

Dr. Peale was a marvelous man to work with.

@ Gaylord, just to clarify. We aren’t hosting the file, we are linking in good faith to Scribd. The book is embedded via Scribd.com

I hope it’s not a violation and if so, I’ll take down the link. How can I go about finding out?

Tracy October 30, 2007 at 10:17 am

You are violating the copyright of this book, please take down this link or we will be forced to notify your ISP that you are breaking the law.

Tracy, I got your email.

And in spite of your poor manners, I’ll ask how exactly is my linking to a post on another site “breaking the law”?

Tracy October 30, 2007 at 12:15 pm

Such copying and use of these items constitutes clear infringements of the rights holders’ copyrights under the Copyright Act and Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512(c),
Please let me know if you have any other questions. I have also sent a cease and desist letter to Scribd.com, so the link will be disabled shortly

I see how Scribd might be in violation of the copyright, but I still don’t see how my site could be construed as “breaking the law” since I only linked to it.

So please explain how linking to a site that is allegedly breaking the law is a violation. Newspapers do it all the time, so does Google, Yahoo and MSN search. All three of these search engines link to the same page on Scribd that I did.

So I’ve done as you asked and removed the link, now it’s your turn. Please explain how I have broken the law by posting an outbound link to another site.

Tracy,

Help more people live their life by spreading a good book’s ebook link, what’s wrong with it? Isn’t it a good thing? We only live this one life, we don’t bring the money with us when we die, nor your copyright law. But we could pass the wisdom we learnt, to our friends, and the next generation. One day the author may die, and the book becomes a classic, his name and his contribution will be remembered, and the book will be able to be read online everywhere.

And, the people who aren’t going to buy it, will not buy it even u force our blogger to disable the link.

You may have done the right thing, but not necessarily a good thing.

Sincerely,
Gordon

GREAT Tracy. I live in India and cannot afford to spend money to buy the book. Now I have to go out and buy a pirated copy which would cost me a hundred rupees (about $ 1.80C). This of course would add to their reason to print more copies, as many Indians will have to resort to buying them. THANK YOU TRACY
