Leonardo Da Vinci’s Health Tips

What can Leonardo Da Vinci teach about remaining healthyda vinci ?

To keep in health these rules are wise:

Beware of anger and avoid grievous moods. Da Vinci knows the advantage of optimism and seemingly knows the health ramifications of bad moods. Perhaps he sensed a connection between bad attitudes and health issues such as ulcers, depression and pain hundreds of years before modern day medicine found it.

Rest your head and keep your mind cheerful. – Again, with optimism, yet in this tip, he says to get rest. Any workaholics in the room? Go to bed!

Be covered well at night – If you’re cold, get a blanket.

Exercise moderately – notice he doesn’t say “powerlifting” or “triathlons.” Moderate exercise.

Shun wantonness, and pay attention to diet. This truth is more important today than probably any other time in history. With US obesity rates skyrocketing, diabetes on the increase we need to watch what we eat and not so much of it.

Eat only when you want and sup light. Much like watching what you eat, you gotta watch when you eat. Eating when you aren’t hungry goes straight to the bottom line (if you get my meaning). Eating light is another key. Recent studies tell us that by eating less and remaining a little hungry actually extends your life and longevity.

Keep upright when you rise from the dining table. – Likely the first person to understand acid reflux, Leonardo, understood how digestion worked. In his studies of anatomy he studied the human form by dissecting dead people.

Do not be with the belly upwards or the head lowered – Imagine walking around with your belly upward and head lowered. It’s bad for posture, balance and your awareness of your surroundings.

Let your wine be mixed with water, take a little at a time, not between meals and not on an empty stomach – This principal is simple. If you are going to drink, drink in moderation and never on an empty stomach.

Eat simple – recent research points to people who have less variety in what they eat are generally happier overall. Da Vinci knew that if you eat exotic foods or a wide variety, you have a greater chance of indigestion.

Chew well – Perhaps we’re all familiar with the technique of eating slowly can help you lose weight. Chewing well is half the battle of eating slowly. Also, many who suffer from GERD and reflux claim that by chewing well, they have less digestive problems.

Go to the toilet regularly! – ’nuff said.

P.S. Think like Leonardo Da Vinci – Use his streamwriting technique to bring genius into your life!

Nice advice.

Not sure about “eat simple” factor.
I mean, I am more than happy when I get lots of variety when I eat.

I’m pretty sure I read (or heard on something like the Discovery channel) that DaVinci was an angry individual a lot of the time. If I have this right, could be these were guidelines he set to try to help himself…

(#1 above) New-age name “anger management”

Enjoyed my visit.

Eric, I hadn’t read about Da Vinci being an angry person, but I am now curious, I’ll look it up.

Commonsense tips but effective.

My biggest downfall is not chewing enough. Anyway, that Leonardo certainly knew a thing or two and was well before his time. I do know that many of his papers were destroyed. We can only guess what other wisdom he might have known!

Magz, I wasn’t aware many of his works were destroyed. Do you have any specifics on which ones?

These health tips not only show the intellect that Leonardo Da Vinci was, but also that he was a very sensible person. Although it is easier for him to be sensible, since he knew facts and was not guessing like most people in that time. However, in the 21st century, we know all these things too as a fact and still find it hard to follow just a single one advice of Leonardo.
