The 2 Types Of Negotiators…

Posted under Productivity, Winning at Work

Everyone reading this blog is (like it or not) a negotiator.  Your negotiation skill levels vary, but in the long run, there are only two types of negotiators out there.

1.  The type who over-promises and under delivers

2.  The type who understates and over delivers

Which type are YOU and why?

I like to think I’m an over-deliver guy. My past 3 days were spent cleaning and repairing the apartment my wife and I just sold. The contract called for it to be ‘broom clean.’ I cleaned the tops of the cabinets in the kitchen and scrubbed the bathtub in addition to touching up paint. The new owner was so happy with the condition of her new home that she sent us an email to say thank you for leaving it in such great condition.

I wanted to make sure she felt as good about the investment she made as I did about the check we deposited in the bank!

I started off as the under-deliver person but after I got disgusted at myself I have tried to become the over-deliver negotiator. That way I feel better about myself when the job is done.
